Copa América 2015

About the project

The Official Copa América 2015 app brings together the news, videos and galleries on all the tournament teams for every game. The app has been created in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, tailored to the worldwide audience who watch the event.

My Role

I designed both Copa apps. Working closely with Dave, the UX architect, to achieve our goals.

Designing the official Copa América Android and iOS apps was a challenge due to the tight time constraints and business objectives. The apps we're predetermined to be served via web views. Our goal was to focus on the menu. We improved the overall UX/design by introducing user testing and measuring analytics for all our design proposals.

The sports app categories are full of native rich experience apps, but our challenge was to build a hybrid app to complement the existing Website to help the tournament organisers to reach a larger audience.

Copa's Success

Even though the tournament was just over 3 weeks long in total, we managed to accumulate some impressive numbers: 1.0 million unique users of both Android and iOS apps and 54 million page views.

As of 19th June 2015, the iOS app had been the No.1 overall app in 8 countries, including Argentina, Chile and Colombia. As well as the No.1 sports App in 23 countries which include Brazil and Spain.
